Day 99. April 11, 2016. Docked at Hiroshima, Japan on the Far East Traveler

Hiroshima is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture, and the largest city in the Chugoku region of western Honshu, the largest island in Japan.  It is best known as the first city in history to be targeted by a nuclear weapon when the United States Army Air Forces dropped an atomic bomb on it at 8:15am on August 6, 1945, near the end of World War ll.
Hiroshima was proclaimed a City of Peace by the Japanese parliament in 1941.  As a result of that Hiroshima has received more international attention  as a desirable location for holding international conferences on peace as well as social issues.  Today is the second day of the G7 in Hiroshima so there will be top security everywhere. Wonder if our prime minister Justin will be there.  Today our plans are avoiding the city till a later time. We are going to go to the island called Miyajima.  It is a very picturesque island and that's where you will find the Itsukushima Shrine and its famous large red tori that rises up and out of the ocean.  The shrine was established in 593, and today is a UNESCORTED World Heritage Site.  At high tide both the tori and the shrine give the illusion of floating on water.
Cleansing yourself.
Me with the locals
At low tide Bob walked out to it
Yep that's Bob way out there.

It was a very short day.  But we made the most of it.  Tomorrow we are in Kobe (Kyoto)  Japan.
Thanks for coming along Leslee & Bob
