Day 154. June 04, 2016. SEA DAY 3/4. En route to Hilo Hawaii USA on the Polynesian Treasures

Pineapples, Pineapples, Pineapples. Who knew?  First one was cultivated in Honolulu by a man named Don Francisco de Puala Martin, a Spanish botanist back in 1813.  Two years later he planted the first Hawaiian vineyard.  Later Martin also planted the first coffee crop, but his plantings failed.  By the end of the century, pineapple and sugarcane were Hawaii's most important crops.  Many large plantations were owned by American settlers, the most prominent one being James Dole, also know as the "Pineapple King ".  Dome planted pineapples on Oahu in 1901, and in 1922 he purchased the entire island of Lanai to grow pineapples there.
Another very popular item to eat in the island's is Spam ( short for spiced ham). A canned pre cooked meat product produced by Hormel Foods. Even though Spam is available throughout the United States as well as in over 40 foreign countries, and Hawaiian residents still to this day consume the most Spam per capita in the United States.  Spam is so popular that it is sometimes called as the "Hawaiian Steak".
At lunch we saw a few whales and their blow.  That was cool.  Haven't seen much sea life as we travel the oceans, sea's etc.
Today we were on the pool deck most of the day trying to plan our Hawaiian ports of call.  3 down 1 to go.  Might just have to beach it in Kauai.  But that's ok with us.  Here are some pictures of our entertainment last night.
This is Will and he is from Nashville he is our Assistant  Cruise Director and he has amazing talent.
And  "Noodles" once again for his final show.  Tonight they have a Greek Night theme up in the Terrace Cafe.
Tomorrow is our last Sea day.  Then we are in the islands.
