Day 98. April 13 2015. Messina Sicily

Seems like we've been here before as well.  This is the third largest city in Sicily lies on the northeast corner of the island just opposite Villa San Giovanni.  With a bustling port serving both as a military and commercial hotspot.  Messina was originally founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC.  Rich in history and filled with ferocious battles, devastating earthquakes and debilitating disease.  It has overcome it struggles becoming a city teeming with a diverse culture and offering a wealth of sites to relive its pasts.  We visited 3 large churches on the hill last time we were here. One was a 12 century cathedral that housed the remains of King Conrad who ruled Germany and Sicily in the 13 century. We saw the 16th century Fountain of Orion and the Fountain of Neptune
