Day 53 ~ Thursday August 22, 2019 Miltenberg Germany onboard the Viking Grand European Cruise

This morning we arrived at the historic town of Miltenberg which is known for its gables, timber-framed houses.  Burning of Witches
Last night we went thorough a 2nd lock from the Rhine to the Main.  We had to celebrate that with a toast of a shot of Aquavit.  Water of life as the Vikings would say.

From our Main River mooring it was a short walk to Hauptstrasse, the main street in the old town.  Houptstrasse is about a mile long and it links Wurburger at the eastern end and Mainzer to the west.  These two towers framed the east-west boundaries of the Old Town in the past.  Our guided walking tour started from the Hauptstrasse and took us along the narrow cobblestone streets lined with beautiful gabled, half timbered houses.

Along this street there were also many shops, cafes, and bakeries to distract us both -- ooh, the smell of the German bread baking was wonderful.  What a charming little town.
