Day 48 ~ Saturday August 16, 2019 Edinburgh Scotland, on the Scottish Highland Exployer

Kilts, David's cookies, Famous Bridges, Royal Mile  where are we?
So we started out with a tender ride from our ship to South Queensferry which is the port of Edinburgh for us.  We were greeted by a warm Scottish welcome and lots of information by the guides.  There were shuttle buses running into Edinburgh city center or there's the train, even taxi's have queued up. Edinburgh is built on 7 hills like Rome. Castle hill is a volcanic plug. Retreating ice sheets deposited glacial debris behind this plug resulting in the formation of a crag and tail. The Royal Mile sits on a fragment of this tail.  Impressed?
The Royal Mile (term was first used in the 19th century) is the Main Street of Old Town Edinburgh. It is based on the Sots mile which is longer than the English mile. Scots mile is equal to 1.81km or 1.086 US miles. It runs downhill from the castle at the highest point of 109 meters above sea level to Holyrood Palace at the bottom, 42 meters above sea level. Along the street are many shops, a lot of which are Scottish woolen shops. You can find your family tartan on many articles! There are many pubs, yes we did make a stop for a pint of a local beer.   So once we got into the city we had choices of HOHO bus or just walking around.  So we decided to walk  and see the sights. We walked down the golden mile instead of walking up it.  Just took our time did the castle.

Cloudy but before we get started.  Please no rain today
