The island of Nosy Be ( Big Island in Malagasy) is situated off the north-west coast of Madagascar. It is about the only region of Madagascar which has much tourist infrastructure. It's tropical climate and suitable location give it the potential to become Madagascar's main beach resort.
The climate is sunny year round, and Nosy Be is paradise for water based activities. Diving is the island's top draw, and there is plenty of swimming, snorkeling and sailing for those keen to stay close to the surface. Everyone on the island speaks French and many speak English.
Today our main attraction are the Lemurs. Our tour is picking us up at the Harbour where we will board a bus and drive into the interior of Nosey Be. We visited a Ylang - Ylang plantation. Perfume is a big seller here.
Lemurs are Madagascar's most famous residents, the Black lemurs. They leap from tree to tree in the forest. The black lemurs are the males and the brown lemurs are the females. All of them live in the wild, they are tame enough to be fed with bananas.
These guys were a little timid, but they did come down for us. This little guy called Chameleon very lime green with rotating red eyes, about the size of a large squirrel. The are very docile and we're all over us.
Oh what a day we had......loved it. So many great shots today. Tomorrow a sea day. Yipee.
Thanks for coming along with us....Bob & Leslee
