Day 15 January 18, 2016 Sea Day Enroute to Belem Brazil on the Atlantic Ocean Exploration

Last night for the entertainment was a movie called "Bridge of Spies.
A fairly new movie with Tom Hanks.  Based on a true story.  Very very good.  Especially the ending last 20 minutes.  This morning it was back to needlepoint and another kit was handed out.  I now Have 5 now and still struggling to find time to work on them.

We are crossing the equator some time late tonight so at 11:00 am they have a ceremony.  Here is some history about the ceremony
"Order of the shellback" this is best known for the crossing of the equator.  (We will be crossing it 3 times).  Originally the tradition was created by seasoned sailors as a test of new shipmates to endure they were capable of handling long, arduous times at sea.  Sailors who have already crossed are called (trusty) Shellbacks, or sons of Neptune, while those who have not are called (slimy) Pollywogs or Wogs.

What a fun event.  The passengers that had never crossed before were around 45 .  They would make them kiss the stinky fish then get ice water poured over their heads.
At 3 pm we have a lecture about our up coming ports in Brazil.  Tonight for dinner is a Caribbean Buffet, so we are going to do that instead of the dinning room.  Speaking of the do inning room, we have sat in this one section every night because Adevideo is so so good we requested his table every night.  He is from Romania.  I will get a picture of him when we go back tomorrow night.   Entertainment tonight is Eric Christensen.  Heard him sing a little at the welcome party.  Tonight he is singing songs from Wicked, Pippin, and Godspell.  Young man from NYC and is part of the Oceania Team.
Today the weather changed after the ceremony.  The wind picked up and the rains came down.  The water has also changed from Beautiful Caribbean blues to Brazilian muddy Browns.

Yesterday was another memorable day among our 180 days.  Devils island... on the surface an island paradise, but with the darkness of pasts.  We shall never forget Devil's  Island.
Kinda sad in a way.
Tomorrow we are in Belem Brazil.
