Day 10 Jan 13, 2016 ~ Fort De France, Martinique. Sun Kissed Sanctuaries

Tucked along the island's western shore Fort du France is a Francophile's tropical dream city.  It is also the capital of Martinique.  Lot's of French architecture graces the downtown. We explored the craft market, the fruit and veggie market, the very modern shopping mall, walked through the Cathedral, saw the impressive library built of metal in France and shipped here. It was an enjoyable way to spend the day.

The heart of Fort de France tourism revolves around La Salvane, the city core, and also a tourist and local hub. Swaying palm trees, punctuated by city benches, and a gleaming marble statue of Napoleon's love interest Josephine are all highlights of the central area. For terrific shopping opportunities near the central square, we headed towards the harbor near the park where vendors fill their stalls with wood carvings, jewelry, handmade hats, woven baskets, and much more.  We decided not to beach it today because we both got burnt pretty bad in Grenada. We also want to go to the beach tomorrow in Barbados.  So we walked and walked.  Bob's fit bit registers that we walked 4 miles today and mine reads 3.4.  So we are going with his.
