This morning we cruise through the final stretch of the Main-Danube Canal.
Having escaped major damage during WW2, the picturesque town of Regensburg is one of Europe best preserved medieval cities, the oldest city along the Danube and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Still today Regensburg boasts many  constructed in the 12th century is a masterpiece of medieval engineering with its 16 arches.  St Peters Cathedral is widely considered Bavaria's best gothic architectural work.  Our walking tour of Regensburg started around 9 a.m. as our ship was moored close to the historic center and we could just walk into town.   The town was lucky that many of its medieval buildings survived the war.  Our guided tour showed us some of the city's architectural highlights began near the Old Stone Bridge.  Built between 1135-1146 it is one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube,  From the bridge we had great views of Regensburg old town.
