This is our 2nd time in Halifax and boy did I have plans to show Wendy today.
So the three of us hopped on a local bus to get to the cemetery. Costs us 3.00 each way and it took about 12 minutes. We arrived at Fairview Lawn Cemetery that is known as the final resting place for 121 victims of the sinking of the Titanic. The graves are arranged in four lines on a sloping hillside with the cemetery to a scheme commissioned by the White Star Line from a surveyor F W Christie, The majority of the headstones are small back granite grave markers. The bevelled top of each headstone is engraved in capital letters with the inscription "Died April 15, 1912" and the number assigned to the victim when their body was recovered from the sea. The first 37 graves are on a linear alignment with a second short line of just 5 graves behind. The third and fourth of the graves rows form a gentle curve along the natural contours of the hillside so its like the bow of a ship. The headstones were paid for by the White Star Line and owners of the Titanic.
