Wow we had a full day here. Started out early in the morning and headed south past villages which have characterized of Sorrento's peninsula for many centuries and of coarse Mt Vesuvius. Still a active volcano and located 15 miles S.E. of Naples which caused the death of Pompeli.
In 2013 We were in Naples and took the train to Sorrento. What a beautiful village. It's situated on a Terrence overlooking the Amalfi coastline. Cliffs that have been cut by the wind and sea create just beautiful scenery. We strolled around this village with its flower filled streets. Lots of open air cafes with people just watching the world go by. We had lunch in a 5 star restaurant at one of the best hotels in Sorrento. Overlooking the beautiful Sorrento Bay in a botanical garden atmosphere.
We both love Lemon Cello.....and its everywhere here.
After lunch we went to see the archaeological excavations of Pompeii. A lost city buried deep beneath the ash from Mt Vesuvius. It took us thur the city's baths villas, theatres and wrestling grounds, we also visited this wine shop where the wine bottles still wait for patrons who will never came to see the plaster casts which marked the position of the fallen that were quickly over come with the ash. Chilling and heart wrenching.
