Today we depart on Via Rail’s Transcontinental train that is restored to its original 1950’s style. The “Canadian” is a handsome stainless steel re-creation of the great era of train travel. We transferred to Union Station right across the street from the Royal York Hotel and we got all checked in. Our starting point is at the Grand Union Station Toronto and head – west. Train #1
The Canadian
So we are now crossing the 2nd largest country in the world by train and after 24 hours we were still only halfway through the province of Ontario. At times it was a blur of blue and green until the train slowed and you could see an endless plain of lakes and trees and clear skies. Pools of blue would appear, the most saturated of greens would block the view of afar and long trees with narrow white trunks looked like a majestic forest.

We arrived in Winnipeg Manitoba early in the evening on the 2 nd day of our train travel anyhow
we have time to get out and explore for a bit. We depart Winnipeg at 9:30 pm The train does not have wifi on it but every station has it. So there will be days that I will post maybe 2 days of blogging.
This was so cool. So I wanted to get a picture of the Winnipeg Train station. We rushed out of it so fast that I didn’t get it. But as we came back I got it this time.
Just so beautiful. Stations are all so different.
