Day 28 Aug 08, 2014 ~ Sea Day

Our Captain Eric van der Wal developed his love of travel from his grandparents, who inspired them with their stories and adventures. Being raised in a small village in the Southeast part of the Netherlands. Eric started his career on a cargo ship as a apprentice officer. He joined HAL recognizing that sailing on a cruise ship was not only a great opportunity to travel, but also a chance to meet new friends. He met his wife on board in 1997 as she was the nurse on board. They reside on Mercer Island just about 20 miles where I went to High School. With over 20 years now of experience in the cruise industry both on ship and ashore he still considers the safety and well being of his passengers and of coarse crew.
